Welcome to the For the Love of the Lake’s profile. Our mission is to preserve the quality and longevity of Dallas’ iconic White Rock Lake Park. Visit www.whiterocklake.org for more info.

For the Love of the Lake is a non profit organization located in the heart of East Dallas and for years, has made it its mission to preserve the beautiful White Rock Lake and Park. For the Love of the Lake was founded in 1995 when a collection of concerned Dallas residents formed a grass roots organization to ensure the Lake's longevity as a safe and comfortable place East Dallas citizens could enjoy.

Over the years, For the Love of the Lake has been aggressive in leading programs that engage the community to support the clean up of the Lake. One of our programs is the Shoreline Spruce Up, which occurs the second Saturday of every month and encourages the local community to pick up recyclables and trash throughout the White Rock Lake Park. The turn out each Saturday speaks to the strength of the organization in the East Dallas community. And better yet, For the Love of the Lake hasn't missed a Second Saturday clean up since April 1996!

Key Programs Include:
Adopt-a-Shoreline Program: Maintains 48 groups that "own" portions of the White Rock Lake shoreline. Their mission is simple - keep that area clean by being proactive about recycling and picking up trash throughout the Park's 1,772+ acres.

Shoreline Spruce Ups: For 17+ years, For the Love of the Lake has hosted a Shoreline Spruce Up on the second Saturday of each month. Attended by 8,000 + volunteers throughout the year, we provide free supplies and education about reasons and sources of pollution on the watershed. We also provide breakfast, snacks, and drinks to our volunteers, and sometimes provide snacks such as pizza after trash pick up.

Texas Stream Team (water monitoring program): 30+ teams that test the water frequently to ensure that it's sustainable for water activities and sports. And in partnering with SMU's Earth Science Department, this program continues to reach new audiences who are interested in supporting the Stream Team's efforts.

Reforestation Effort: On Jan. 12, 2013, For the Love of the Lake led the planting of 156 trees in White Rock Lake Park. The activity brought 400+ volunteers together to conduct this massive effort to ensure that Dallas residents have lush trees to enjoy for years to come. The next project is in the Big Thicket area of White Rock Lake Park. Site preparation has started with the removal of invasive plants. Look for 150 new trees in that location in November 2013.

Michelle, the lovely bride, says "Everything throughout the day is very personal to us. Our ceremony is a spot we go running at, our reception is at somewhere we go for dates, my wedding band is a combination of our birthstones, we’ve limited our guest list to those most active and important in our lives."
